సనాతన ధర్మానికీ, సకల ప్రాణి సమానత్వానికీ మధ్య జరిగే అంతర్మథనమే ‘సప్తపది’. పవిత్రమైన ఆగమ శాస్త్రాలకు, ఆచారాలకు కట్టుబడిన యజులు అనే నిష్ఠాగరిష్ఠుడైన అర్చకుడి దార్శనిక ప్రయాణం ఈ కథ. తన మనవరాలు హేమ ఇష్టం లేకుండా ఆమెకు తన కుమారుడి కొడుకైన గౌరీనాథంతో వివాహం జరిపిస్తాడు యజులు. కానీ హేమ హృదయం హరిబాబు అనే మరో కులానికి చెందిన వేణుగానలోలుడికి అంకితమైందని తెలుసుకున్న గౌరీనాథం, ఆమెను జగన్మాత స్వరూపంగా భావించి దూరమవుతాడు. ఆచారాల కన్నా మనిషి అంతరంగం, ప్రేమ, దైవత్వం గొప్పవని గ్రహించిన యజులు, పది తరాల నిష్ఠను పక్కనపెట్టి, మనుమరాలికి ఆమె వలచిన వాడితో వివాహం జరిపించి, కులమతాలకు అతీతమైన మానవత్వాన్ని చాటిచెబుతాడు. ఇది ఆత్మను మేల్కొల్పే ఒక ఆధ్యాత్మిక, సామాజిక సంస్కరణాత్మక కావ్యం.
‘Saptapadi’ is a profound introspection of the conflict between rigid orthodoxy and universal humanism. The narrative follows Yajulu, a deeply traditional priest whose life is governed by strict scriptures and ancestral customs. Against her will, he marries his granddaughter Hema to his grandson Gaurinadha Sastry. However, discovering her pure devotion and love for Haribabu, a flautist from a different caste, Gaurinadha sees the divine mother in her and steps away. Realizing that true devotion lies in humanity and love rather than rigid dogmas, Yajulu transcends his deeply ingrained conservatism. He breaks the shackles of orthodoxy to unite the lovers, delivering a timeless message that the highest form of spirituality is human compassion and equality.
