అవంతి రాకుమార్తె విద్యాధరి అపారమైన కాళికా భక్తురాలు. మంత్రి పన్నిన కుట్రకు బలైన ఆమె, నిరక్షరాస్యుడైన అజపాలకుడు ‘కాలుడు’ను గొప్ప విద్వాంసుడని భ్రమపడి వివాహం చేసుకుంటుంది. తదనంతరం నిజం తెలుసుకుని విలపిస్తున్న ఆమెను చూసి చలించిన కాలుడు, కాళికామాతను కఠోరంగా ప్రార్థిస్తాడు. అమ్మవారి కరుణాకటాక్షాలతో అపారమైన జ్ఞానాన్ని పొంది ‘కాళిదాసు’గా అవతరిస్తాడు, కానీ తన గతాన్ని పూర్తిగా విస్మరిస్తాడు. అటుపై కాళిదాసు ఉజ్జయినిలోని భోజరాజు ఆస్థానంలో మహాకవిగా అనంతమైన కీర్తి ప్రతిష్ఠలు గడిస్తాడు. భర్త జాడను అన్వేషిస్తూ బయలుదేరిన విద్యాధరి, ఎన్నో ఆటుపోట్లను ఎదుర్కొని, చివరకు తన భర్త ప్రేమానురాగాలను ఎలా తిరిగి పొందిందనేది ఈ అపురూప చిత్ర సారాంశం. ఇది తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల హృదయాల్లో ఒక అద్భుతమైన దృశ్యకావ్యంగా నిలిచిపోయింది.
Princess Vidyadhari of Avanti is an ardent devotee of Goddess Kali. Falling prey to a minister’s evil scheme, she marries Kaludu, an illiterate shepherd, mistaking him for a great scholar. Upon discovering the truth and seeing her distress, Kaludu performs intense penance to Goddess Kali. Blessed with divine knowledge, he transforms into the legendary poet Kalidasa but completely loses his past memories. Kalidasa then attains immense glory in the court of King Bhoja. The narrative beautifully follows Vidyadhari’s poignant journey to reunite with her husband and restore his memory. The film remains an extraordinary visual poem etched in the hearts of the Telugu audience.
