Heart-rending psychological drama and tragedy
గోదావరి తీరాన సాగే అద్భుత దృశ్యకావ్యం ‘శారద’. ఒక అమాయకపు పల్లెటూరి పడుచు శారద. ఆమెను ప్రాణంగా ప్రేమించి వివాహమాడిన వైద్యుడు, విధి వక్రించి పెళ్లయిన తొలి రాత్రే గోదావరిలో పడవ మునిగి జలసమాధి అవుతాడు. ఆ హఠాన్మరణం మిగిల్చిన శోకం నుండి కోలుకోలేక శారద తన మానసిక సమతుల్యతను కోల్పోతుంది. ఆమె అమాయకత్వాన్ని కాపాడేందుకు ఊరి జనం ఆమె భర్త తిరిగి వస్తాడని మభ్యపెడతారు. కొంతకాలానికి సరిగ్గా ఆమె భర్త రూపంలో ఉన్న ఒక మానసిక వైద్యుడు ఆ ఊరికి వస్తాడు. ఆమె దీనస్థితిని అర్థం చేసుకున్న ఆ వైద్యుడు, తన భార్య అంగీకారంతో శారదకు నయంచేసే నిమిత్తం భర్తగా నటిస్తాడు. చివరకు గతాన్ని నెమరువేసుకున్న శారద, భర్త లేడన్న చేదు నిజాన్ని అంగీకరించి, ఎవరికీ భారం కాకూడదన్న ఉద్దేశంతో తన అన్నయ్య ఒడిలో ప్రాణాలు వదులుతుంది. ఈ కథ మానవ సంబంధాల లోతులను, మనస్తత్వ పొరలను ఎంతో సున్నితంగా ఆవిష్కరిస్తుంది.
Sarada is a poignant psychological drama set in a quaint village. An innocent village girl, Sarada, loses her doctor husband in a tragic boat accident on the Godavari river on their wedding night. Unable to cope with the trauma, she loses her sanity. Her brother and the villagers, out of immense love, pretend her husband is still alive. Later, a psychiatrist resembling her late husband visits the village. Touched by her tragic fate, he and his wife play along with her illusion to cure her. Once cured, Sarada realizes the painful truth and, unwilling to be a burden, tragically passes away in her brother’s arms while returning to her village.
