కన్యాశుల్కం గురజాడ అప్పారావు గారు రచించిన ఒక అద్భుతమైన నాటకం. ఇది 19వ శతాబ్దపు చివరి కాలంలో సమాజంలో ఉన్న కన్యాశుల్కం (పిల్లలను అమ్ముకోవడం), బాల్య వివాహాలు మరియు మతపరమైన వేషధారణలో ఉన్న అవినీతి వంటి దురాచారాలను ఎండగట్టింది. గ్రాంథిక భాషలో కాకుండా వాడుక భాషలో రాయబడిన మొదటి గొప్ప తెలుగు నాటకంగా ఇది తెలుగు సాహిత్య చరిత్రలో నిలిచిపోయింది.

Kanyasulkam is a landmark play in Telugu literature that critiqued the social evils of the late 19th century, particularly the practice of selling young girls in marriage (bride price). It was the first major work to use spoken Telugu dialect (Vyavaharika Bhasha) instead of the traditional formal style, featuring the iconic character Girisam and exposing hypocrisy in society.
