19వ శతాబ్దం చివరలో బాల్య వివాహాలు, కన్యాశుల్కం వంటి దురాచారాలపై పోరాటంగా ఈ నాటకం ఉద్భవించింది. ఇది తెలుగు సాహిత్యాన్ని సామాన్యుడికి చేరువ చేసిన విప్లవాత్మక రచన.
